What is DepressionNowadays everyone is suffering from depression or we can say that they feel sad most of the time. So what is depression? Depression is nothing but mental illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts. These mental and physical feelings seem to follow them night and day, appear to have no end. Depression is alleviated by happy events or good news. Many people say that it is a sign of one's weakness. But it is wrong, depression is not a sign of ones weakness or not a condition that can be wished away. People with depression cannot merely "pull themselves together" and get better. Depression, this term is often used to describe emotional reactions. There are too many different names for depression like typical depression, cone of depression, inbreeding depression, great depression, manic depression, major depression, respiratory depression, the great depression and clinical depression. Definition of Depression Depression affects the way one feels about oneself and the way one thinks about things. Even it affects on a person's eating and sleeping habits. Depression: It is the act of depressing and the condition of being depressed. Depression is characterized by lack of activity, self-worth, dejection, sad feelings, gloom and inadequacy. When the people are in depression, then their life becomes negative. People in depression often face hopelessness, passivity, indecisiveness, suicidal intentions, loss of appetite, weight loss, sleeping disorders. Types of Depression There are different types of depressions according to their symptoms, their severity, and their persistence. 1. Major depression 2. Dysthymia depression 3. Bipolar disorder Major Depression Major depression is the combination of all symptoms that disturb the person's daily routine work, study, sleep, eating and enjoying habits. This depression appears only once but mostly occurs several times in a lifetime. Dysthymia Depression It is less severe type of depression. From this depression, people don't disable because it does not involve all symptoms. This type of depression keeps people from functioning well or from feeling good. Many people who are in dysthymia depression feel like major depression after some time. Bipolar Disorder It is also called as manic-depressive illness. Bipolar disorder is characterized by cycling mood change, high and low depression. In this person's mood change dramatically and rapidly. The people in bipolar disorder feel like elated. When depression occurs? At any stage of life depression can occur from childhood to old age. Causes and depression symptoms are different for different age or different person. Depression in Women As compared to men, women are more prone to depression. As per medical research women have many hormonal factors that increase rate of depression in women. These factors include cycle changes, pregnancy, miscarriage, postpartum period, and menopause. Those women who are facing responsibilities both at work and home are in depression. Particularly after the birth of a baby, hormonal and physical changes should be done in women. Added responsibility of a new baby some women take which again can lead them to depression. Depression in Men As compared to women men are less likely to suffer form depression. In suicide case is exact opposite in which rate of suicide in men is four times that of women. Depression in men and women is different even it affects also very differently on both of them. Causes of depression in men are particularly acceptable habits of alcohol or drugs, or working excessively long hours. When men is being angry, irritable and discouraged then guess that he is in depression. Depression in Elderly It is seen that most of elderly people are in depression. Even then we can say that most older people feel satisfied. Main cause of depression in elderly is because of family issues. Elder people becomes hopeless, sad, and lose interest in everything. Depression in Children Recently from two decades depression in children has been taken seriously. Depressed child feels sick. He or she refuses to go to school. He or she is negative and feel misunderstood. When teacher said that child doesn't behavior well then parent has to get child is in depression.
